• The SharePoint term 'artifact' does not refer to a legacy item, as you might infer if you think of the word as describing an ancient pottery shard somone has excavated. Rather it reflects the first definition for the word at Dictionary.com which is "any object made by human beings, esp. with a view to subsequent use." SharePoint artifacts are the structural pieces you build, and reuse, to create the framework of your site.
